Collect

Almighty God,
who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ
have overcome death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life:
grant that, as by your grace going before us
you put into our minds good desires,
so by your continual Collect

God our redeemer,
you have delivered us from the power of darkness
and brought us into the kingdom of your Son:
grant, that as by his death he has recalled us to life,
so by his continual presence in us he may raise us
to eternal joy;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord.

All        Amen

First Reading

Acts 16.9-15

9During the night Paul had a vision: there stood a man of Macedonia pleading with him and saying, ‘Come over to Macedonia and help us.’ 10When he had seen the vision, we immediately tried to cross over to Macedonia, being convinced that God had called us to proclaim the good news to them.

11We set sail from Troas and took a straight course to Samothrace, the following day to Neapolis, 12and from there to Philippi, which is a leading city of the district of Macedonia and a Roman colony. We remained in this city for some days. 13On the sabbath day we went outside the gate by the river, where we supposed there was a place of prayer; and we sat down and spoke to the women who had gathered there. 14A certain woman named Lydia, a worshipper of God, was listening to us; she was from the city of Thyatira and a dealer in purple cloth. The Lord opened her heart to listen eagerly to what was said by Paul. 15When she and her household were baptized, she urged us, saying, ‘If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come and stay at my home.’ And she prevailed upon us.

This is the word of the Lord.

All        Thanks be to God

Gospel Reading

Alleluia, alleluia.
I am the first and the last, says the Lord, and the living one;
I was dead, and behold I am alive for evermore.

All        Alleluia.

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to N.

All        Glory to you, O Lord.

John 14.23-29

Jesus said to his disciples: 23‘Those who love me will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24Whoever does not love me does not keep my words; and the word that you hear is not mine, but is from the Father who sent me.

25‘I have said these things to you while I am still with you. 26But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. 27Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid. 28You heard me say to you, “I am going away, and I am coming to you.” If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I. 29And now I have told you this before it occurs, so that when it does occur, you may believe.’

This is the Gospel of the Lord.

All        Praise to you, O Christ

Prayer after Communion

God our Father,
whose Son Jesus Christ gives the water of eternal life:
may we thirst for you,
the spring of life and source of goodness,
through him who is alive and reigns, now and for ever.

All        Amen

We should like to thank everyone who contributes to our stewardship scheme, whether by standing order to our bank, through the Parish Giving Scheme or by regular giving through the plate.  We are grateful for your gifts.  If you would like to support us, please contact Charmaine Augustus for further information.

Prayer list: The names of those who are ill or in need of prayer will remain on the prayer list for three weeks.  However, we realise that some people may need to be on for longer and, if this is the case, please speak with Carol Sharman who will be happy to arrange this

Well Being Café  All those who have attended have enjoyed the coffee, tea, homemade cake and soup, and chatting.  It aims to be a friendly inclusive space where people can meet people or be quiet after the morning service, so please do come along and invite others.  All are welcome.  We will add to what we do over time and any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Our thanks to all who have booked seats for the Jubilee Proms concert at Derngate on 12th June.  We now have the tickets and will be handing them out and collecting payments next week.  As expected, seats have sold like hot cakes and the original offer has now closed.  However, there is still limited availability in certain areas of the theatre (further details from Bob & Jean – 524974) and some coach seats are available (contact Bob Miller – 725974), if interested, but don’t delay!

Bible Study: Completing our study of the Old Testament text of Handel’s Messiah, there will be three sessions on Wednesday afternoons, 3.00 – 4.00pm, 1st, 15th and 29th June, at 9 Pebbleford Road, Kettering NN15 6QE.  Even if you didn’t do the first three, do join us for these; you will be very welcome.                                                                              Ann Burridge

Plant Appeal:  In order to help raise much needed funds, we shall be having a plant stall on Jubilee Sunday, 5th June, after a short Family Service.  If anyone has any spare plants that they would like to donate, this would be very much appreciated.  Thank you very much.                                                                                                                     Val
