Collect

Almighty God, you show to those who are in error the light of your truth, that they may return to the way of righteousness: grant to all those who are admitted into the fellowship of Christ’s religion, that they may reject those things that are contrary to their profession, and follow all such things as are agreeable to the same; through our Lord Jesus Christ, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

All Amen

First Reading

Philippians 3.17-4.1

17Brothers and sisters, join in imitating me, and observe those who live according to the example you have in us. 18For many live as enemies of the cross of Christ; I have often told you of them, and now I tell you even with tears. 19Their end is destruction; their god is the belly; and their glory is in their shame; their minds are set on earthly things. 20But our citizenship is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. 21He will transform the body of our humiliation that it may be conformed to the body of his glory, by the power that also enables him to make all things subject to himself. 1Therefore, my brothers and sisters, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, my beloved.

This is the word of the Lord.

All Thanks be to God

Gospel Reading

Praise to you, O Christ, King of eternal glory. The Lord is a great God, O that today you would listen to his voice. Harden not your hearts.

All Praise to you, O Christ, King of eternal glory.

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to N.

All Glory to you, O Lord.

Luke 13.31-35

31At that very hour some Pharisees came and said to him, ‘Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you.’ 32He said to them, ‘Go and tell that fox for me, “Listen, I am casting out demons and performing cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish my work. 33Yet today, tomorrow, and the next day I must be on my way, because it is impossible for a prophet to be killed away from Jerusalem.” 34Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often

have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her

brood under her wings, and you were not willing! 35See, your house is left to you. And I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes when you say, “Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.”’

This is the Gospel of the Lord.

All Praise to you, O Christ

Prayer after Communion

Almighty God, you see that we have no power of ourselves to help ourselves: keep us both outwardly in our bodies, and inwardly in our souls; that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All Amen

Prayer Days

This is a time set apart to think. In this busy world, it is good to just take time out and be quiet. Here is an opportunity to recharge your batteries. Much of the time will be quiet. Craft and other activities will be available to keep your hands busy, and allow your minds to ponder on aspects of what you have heard and seen.

The two-hour time frame will be broken into three parts. Each part will begin with a video film clip and some relevant passages from the Bible. There are three themes: The Sea, The mountains and deserts, and New Life. After each video, you will be free to continue your chosen activity. Talking will be kept to a minimum, but tea and coffee will be provided. A very short act of worship will begin and end the day.

Do feel free to join us: there is nothing to be anxious about. No-one will expect you to do or say anything; this is a time for YOU. I do hope that you will come either on

SATURDAY, 19th March from 10.00am to 12noon

or

THURSDAY, 24th March from 7.30pm – 9.30pm.

These Prayer Days will be held in church at St. Mary’s, Burton Latimer

My very best wishes, Ann
