Making the love of God known in our community & homes
Week commencing 12th April 2020
Easter Sunday
Dear friends
Hallelujah He is Risen! Happy Easter everyone! It seems so hard to be buoyant today amidst all this turmoil it just doesn’t ‘feel’ like Easter…but today is Easter Sunday, a spiritual community feast day albeit in the middle of a global community famine. Despite the pain around us, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ endured all that suffering on the cross so that we may forever be held by Him in all that life brings. What an amazing thing that our Lord identifies with suffering and isolation and has overcome it. We have a God that is not distant and remote but one that is with us. Last year I had the privilege of visiting the place where many believe the garden tomb to have been and so I have posted some pictures for you to enjoy. My favourite is the one of the gardener with my imagination tripping into all sorts of, ‘I wonder?’ thoughts. If its any help, although I had a wonderful experience at the garden tomb site, other than my imagination going into overdrive I didn’t ‘feel’ closer to God there, any more than I have with you in church, but I was spiritually inspired to praise him for what he did for us 2000 years ago and so it was special. No matter how you are ‘feeling’ today about worshiping in isolation…Easter Sunday happened, don’t let your feelings detract you from the joy of He is Risen!!! Let us all praise His holy name. May God bless you. Jez x
Happy Easter from the Houston family. Our heartfelt prayer at this time is above all that you would know afresh the life changing power of the Resurrection again today, and have renewed confidence that death has been defeated. Whats more that we have been promised an incredible home that Jesus has gone ahead to prepare for us. So let us live as people of life, though we must stay physically distant for a short while to protect others, let us live each day knowing we have that eternal destiny and let us look forward to the day where we may celebrate Christ’s victory, together, in person. God bless you all.

On the evening of the first day and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear, Jesus came and stood among them and said “Peace be with you”. We can think of no greater wish for you and your loved ones this Easter. We may be apart but nothing can separate us from the love and peace of God. A blessed and Happy Easter to you all. Mike Jones and Carol Sharman
Our Lord has written the promise of the resurrection, not In books ( or on pew sheets!) but in every leaf in springtime. Blessings Roger
“Jesus Christ is risen; the same yesterday, today and for ever” – a happy, healthy and blessed Easter to you all. Ann
Prayers
Lord we lift our hearts to you. As the dawn breaks, may we carry the unity we share into every moment knowing that we are one with the risen Christ. Lord, we lift our eyes to you. As the sunrises, may this moment stay with us, reminding us to look for the beautiful colours of promise in your word. Lord, we lift our prayers to you. As the dew air falls, may we breathe this morning in and know that like the earth, you sustain us, keep us and work within us always. And so, we lift our voices to you. We celebrate the greatest day in history, when Jesus rose from death, defeated darkness and bathed the world in stunning resurrection light. May we ever live to praise you!
Amen
God of love and hope, you made the world and care for all
creation, but the world feels strange right now. The news is full of stories
about Coronavirus. Some people are worried that they might get ill. Others are
anxious for their family and friends. Be with them and help them to find peace.
We pray for the doctors and nurses and scientists,
and all who are working to discover the right medicines to help those who are
ill.
Thank you that even in these anxious times, you are with us. Help us to put our
trust in you and keep us safe
Amen.
Ah my dear Lord, the church is locked but let my heart
be open to your presence; there let us make, you and I, your Easter garden;
plant it with flowers, and let the heavy stone be rolled away.

Collect
Lord of all life and power,
who through the mighty resurrection of your Son
overcame the old order of sin and death
to make all things new in him:
grant that we, being dead to sin
and alive to you in Jesus Christ,
may reign with him in glory;
to whom with you and the Holy Spirit
be praise and honour, glory and might,
now and in all eternity.
Amen

Acts 10.34-43
Gospel
John 20.1-18
1Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary
Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the
tomb. 2So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple,
the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, ‘They have taken the Lord out of
the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.’ 3Then Peter
and the other disciple set out and went towards the tomb. 4The two
were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb
first. 5He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying
there, but he did not go in. 6Then Simon Peter came, following him,
and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there, 7and
the cloth that had been on Jesus’ head, not lying with the linen wrappings but
rolled up in a place by itself. 8Then the other disciple, who
reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; 9for
as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead. 10Then
the disciples returned to their homes.
11But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent
over to look into the tomb; 12and she saw two angels in white,
sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other
at the feet. 13They said to her, ‘Woman, why are you weeping?’ She
said to them, ‘They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have
laid him.’ 14When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus
standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. 15Jesus said
to her, ‘Woman, why are you weeping? For whom are you looking?’ Supposing him
to be the gardener, she said to him, ‘Sir, if you have carried him away, tell
me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.’ 16Jesus said
to her, ‘Mary!’ She turned and said to him in Hebrew, ‘Rabbouni!’
which means Teacher. 17Jesus said to her, ‘Do not hold on to me, because I
have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, “I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.“’ 18Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, ‘I have seen the Lord’; and she told them that he had said these things to her.

God of Life,

Almighty God,

Reflection
Invitation to Confession
The minister
You then, who truly and earnestly repent of your sins,
and are in love and charity with your neighbours,
and intend to lead a new life,
following the commandments of God,
and walking from this day forward in his holy ways:
draw near with faith,
and take this holy sacrament to your comfort;
and make your humble confession to almighty God.
Confession
All Father eternal, giver of light and grace,
we have sinned against you and against our neighbour,
in what we have thought,
in what we have said and done,
through ignorance, through weakness,
through our own deliberate fault.
We have wounded your love,
and marred your image in us.
We are sorry and ashamed,
and repent of all our sins.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
who died for us,
forgive us all that is past;
and lead us out from darkness
to walk as children of light.
Amen
Absolution
The minister says
Almighty God, our heavenly Father,
who in his great mercy
has promised forgiveness of sins
to all those who with heartfelt repentance and true faith turn to him:
have mercy on you,
pardon and deliver you from all your sins,
confirm and strengthen you in all goodness,
and bring you to everlasting life,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
All Amen.

Eucharist Prayer
Have your bread a wine ready
The Lord be with you
All and also with you.
Father, on the night before he died,
Jesus shared a meal with his friends.
He took the bread, and thanked you.
He broke it, and gave it to them, saying:
Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this to remember me.
After the meal, Jesus took the cup of wine.
He thanked you, and gave it to them, saying:
Drink this, all of you.
This is my blood,
the new promise of God’s unfailing love.
Do this to remember me.
Jesus Christ has died.
All Jesus Christ has died.
Jesus Christ is risen.
All Jesus Christ is risen.
Jesus Christ will come again.
All Jesus Christ will come again.
Father, as we bring this bread and wine,
and remember his death and resurrection,
send your Holy Spirit,
that we who share these gifts, though apart but together now in you,
may be fed by Christ’s body and his blood.
Pour your Spirit on us
that we may love one another,
work for the healing of the earth,
and share the good news of Jesus,
as we wait for his coming in glory.
For honour and praise belong to you, Father,
with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit:
one God, for ever and ever.
All Amen
We take communion.

The Lord’s Prayer
Let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us
All Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
The Blessing
The peace of God,
which passes all understanding,
keep your hearts and minds
in the knowledge and love of God,
and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord;
and the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be among you and remain with you always.
All Amen.
